The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has called a meeting of teachers' unions to prevent a potential walkout before classes resume on Wednesday.
The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education, Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers, and Kenya National Union of Teachers have all been invited to address the Sh13.3 billion teachers' salary issue that could disrupt public schools.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia will lead the talks at 10 a.m. as part of a more significant effort to resolve the dispute. Further discussions will be held with the Ministries of Labour, National Treasury, and Education. President William Ruto has called on all parties to collaborate in addressing the issues and preventing a strike.
The teachers' unions are requesting salary arrears for July and August in addition to the Sh13.3 billion needed for the implementation of the Second Phase of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement. They also want to negotiate the CBA for 2026–2030. If demands are not met, the planned strike is scheduled to start on August 26.
