Police in the CBO area of Mwatate, Taita Taveta County, are conducting a search for a man who became trapped after a mining tunnel collapsed on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when two miners were working inside the tunnel. According to police, loose sand gave way, burying one of the miners, while the other managed to escape with minor injuries.
"Efforts to locate him are ongoing, as he left the scene to seek medical attention," stated a report filed at Mwatate Police Station.
The police noted that poor visibility and the unstable surface of the mining tunnel hindered the rescue operation, leading to its suspension late into the night. The search resumed early Sunday morning.
