Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has responded to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni's accusations of interfering in Uganda's politics.
Owino, known for his outspoken nature, dismissed Museveni's claims, emphasizing his commitment to democracy and his support for visionary leadership across Africa.
Owino reflected on his humble beginnings, stating that his experiences growing up in poverty have shaped his understanding of the struggles faced by ordinary citizens in Kenya and Uganda.

He drew parallels between the economic challenges in both countries, stressing that young people deserve leaders who genuinely understand and can address their needs.
“I appreciate President Museveni’s support for Baba’s bid for AUC Chairmanship. However, as a leader who has experienced poverty firsthand, I understand what it means to lack basic necessities,” Owino said. “We, as leaders, have a responsibility to provide solutions to the challenges facing our people in Kenya and across Africa.”
Owino indirectly criticized Museveni's 38-year rule, advocating for democratic principles and the rights of the Ugandan people. He argued that African nations need alternative leadership visions to overcome oppression and poverty.
“As Babu Owino, I stand for a democratic society where children in Kenya and Uganda receive proper healthcare, education, and employment opportunities,” Owino stated. “We must offer alternative leadership that can free Africans from the chains of oppression and poverty.”
During an endorsement of Raila Odinga's African Union Commission chairmanship bid at State House in Nairobi, Museveni accused Owino of collaborating with Uganda's opposition. Museveni claimed to have intelligence reports implicating Owino but had not previously raised the issue.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also criticized Museveni, objecting to the Ugandan President's public reprimand of Owino in Kenya.
Sifuna argued that issues should have been addressed diplomatically rather than in a public forum.
