A police officer stationed in Kakamega County was arrested following an altercation with a tuk-tuk crew along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway.
The incident involved police constable Nathan Bett, who was assigned to maintain order at the court premises.
According to Bett, the tuk-tuk crew refused to stop at the Kakamega Police Station gate, preventing him from getting out of the tuk-tuk. He claimed the individuals intended to kidnap him, prompting him to discharge his firearm in self-defense.

The incident resulted in a 28-year-old male sustaining two gunshot wounds—one to the left shoulder and another penetrating the right collarbone and exiting through the left.
The injured man was initially treated at Mukumu Dispensary before being transferred to Oasis Multispecialty Hospital in Kakamega for further medical care.
Officer Bett has since been taken into custody and is facing attempted murder charges as investigations continue. The police report also indicated that action would be taken against the officer in charge of the armory for issuing the Ceska pistol to a non-commissioned officer.
