One person has died in an accident after the vehicle they were traveling in rammed into a lorry near Konza along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Two others were rushed to hospital after sustaining severe injuries during the incident.

According to Dr. Charles Mulinge, a Machakos Level Five Hospital paramedic, the injured receive treatment at the facility.

The body of the deceased was taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary as investigations get underway.

This comes a day after twelve people lost their lives in a tragic road accident in the Nithi Bridge, Tharaka Nithi County.

Among the deceased were two minors, while the other victims included eight women and two men.

Confirming the accident, Tharaka Nithi police commander Zaccheus Ng'eno said it involved a privately hired Toyota Hiace heading to Nairobi and a Toyota Hilux traveling towards Chogoria.

"It is another dark evening that we have had an accident. We are confirming that we have collected 12 bodies from the scene, and two others injured," said Ng'eno.

The county police boss said the tragic crash involved two vehicles headed to Nairobi and Meru.
