Kenyan murder suspect Kevin Kang'ethe has been extradited to the United States to face charges related to the murder of his girlfriend, Margaret Mbitu.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, authorized the extradition, and Kang'ethe was sent to the U.S. on Sunday. He is scheduled to stand trial in Boston on Tuesday, September 3.
Ingonga confirmed his commitment to support the U.S., particularly the prosecution team, as they advance the case. He also expressed his office's continued support and prayers for the family of the late Margaret Mbitu.

Earlier in June 2024, Ingonga had assured FBI Director Christopher Wray that his office was dedicated to ensuring justice in this case.
Kang'ethe is accused of murdering Mbitu, whose body was discovered in a vehicle at Boston's Logan Airport in November 2023. Following the incident, Kang'ethe fled to Kenya, where he remained in hiding until his arrest by Kenyan authorities.
After being apprehended in January 2024, Kang'ethe was held under a 30-day detaining order to allow further investigations. However, he managed to escape from Muthaiga Police Station on February 8 with the help of a man posing as his lawyer.
According to a police report, in a separate room, the suspect was left alone with this "lawyer," later identified as John Maina Ndegwa. Kang'ethe then fled the station, leading to a brief manhunt.
Kang'ethe was eventually re-arrested on February 13 at a family-owned Ngong farm where he was hiding. His arrest was made possible by a tip from a concerned relative who feared for the family's safety and was familiar with the victim.
Following his re-arrest, the court ordered that Kang'ethe be detained at the Industrial Area Remand Prison, where he remained until his recent extradition to the U.S.
