A Murang'a police officer is nursing injuries after his cell phone caught fire as he was conducting his duties.

According to police records, Police Constable Simon Chepkirwok was one of four cops who were heading to Kinangop from Mathioya for official duty.

Before they arrived at their destination, Chepkirwok's phone in his left front trouser pocket caught fire and burned him on the left leg.

The police officer was transported to Kenol Hospital, where he received medical care before discharge.

"It has been reported by Cpl John Anyimo , PC Simon Chepkirwok , PC Wilson Nyaga and PC (d ) Cornelius Kemboi all of DCI Mathioya, that while they were travelling from Mathioya to Kinangop on official duty…the mobile phone ‘make ; Techno BF1’ the property of PC Simon Chepkirwok which was in his left front trouser pocket burst in flames and burnt him on the left thigh," the report read in part.

The cell phone is being examined to determine what exactly happened.
