A suspected gangster was shot dead at Piai Trading Centre in Murinduko Ward, Mwea-East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County.
Two other suspects, who sustained gunshot wounds, were arrested following the incident.
The trio was part of a gang of over six individuals caught attempting to break into a shop. Police officers from Piai and Itangi stations, who were on patrol, intervened around 2 a.m., according to Mwea-East Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga.

When confronted, the gang attempted to flee, prompting the officers to open fire. One suspect was killed, and two were injured and subsequently arrested. The injured suspects were taken to the hospital while the police continued their search for the remaining gang members.
Authorities recovered the suspect's vehicle, along with several stolen items. The two arrested individuals reportedly admitted to being involved in criminal activities.
Nyaanga assured residents that police patrols would continue in Mwea-East Sub-County, focusing on apprehending all criminals in the area. He warned those involved in illegal activities that they were being actively pursued.
The body of the deceased suspect was transported to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
