A mother of three is in critical condition at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital after being brutally attacked by her husband with a heated metal rod.

Rose Wanja, 38, reported that her husband, who returned home intoxicated, initiated an argument over money before physically assaulting her.

The violent incident was brought to light after Wanja's niece alerted the police two days later. Wanja had been confined in their home and endured severe injuries to her face, legs, and a fractured pelvis. Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the perpetrator.

Wanja revealed that her marriage has been marred by continuous physical abuse. She recalled a similar attack nine years ago when her husband struck their two-month-old baby with a metal rod, resulting in a three-year prison sentence for him.

Benjamin Mwaura, the deputy chief nurse at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, confirmed that Wanja's condition has stabilized but noted that she remains unable to walk due to her severe injuries, including a broken pelvis.

Mwaura highlighted the alarming increase in gender-based violence cases at the facility, mentioning a previous incident where a woman was scalded with hot water by her husband.

Naivasha Gender-Based Violence Cluster Coordinator John Kinuthia emphasized that Wanja had suffered years of abuse, culminating in this life-threatening assault.

The case highlights the ongoing challenge of addressing gender-based violence in the region.
