A group of 500 elders from Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties has officially cut ties with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the region’s representative to President William Ruto.
During a press conference in Embu, the leaders emphasized their concern over escalating political tensions, which they believe diverted attention from critical issues such as development projects, farmers’ welfare, and youth empowerment.
Cyrus Ngeranwa, speaking on behalf of the elders, acknowledged President Ruto’s efforts toward regional development but stressed the need for political leaders to prioritize unity and progress over divisive politics.

"We endorse Prof. Kithure Kindiki as our region’s link to the President. His national stature will help bridge relations with other regions and promote development," Ngeranwa stated.
This endorsement follows growing support for Kindiki from a youth group in the Mt. Kenya East region. The group praised the Interior CS as a leader who embodies the ideals of a united and inclusive Kenya, free from ethnic divisions.

They echoed calls for Kindiki to lead national discussions that would benefit the entire region.
In addition, 40 legislators from Mt. Kenya West and the diaspora signed the ‘Nyahururu Declaration’ during a meeting in Nyahururu, bringing the total number of MPs backing Kindiki to 69.
The declaration further cements Kindiki’s position as the preferred liaison between the Mt. Kenya region and the government, setting the stage for a political showdown with Gachagua over the control of Central Kenya politics.
As support grows for Kindiki, the political landscape within the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region could see significant shifts, particularly in determining future leadership and regional influence.
