University students with concerns about the current funding model will need to wait longer for their appeals to be addressed and banding adjustments made, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos.
Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Education on Tuesday, Migos revealed that the appeals process has not yet begun. "We haven't started addressing the appeals yet because we’re still accepting them... You're still in school; no one's being sent away. We'll ensure exams are held, and an analysis will follow once everyone has had a chance," he stated.
Migos added that the complaints portal will remain open until December, and the ministry is awaiting a team to thoroughly review the submissions. However, he emphasized that students can continue their studies while the process is underway.

Later, Migos, along with the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, witnessed the inauguration of a 129-member committee, commissioned by President William Ruto, to review the funding model.
"Education affects many, so I urge you to consult widely. Engage with the education sector, but also parents, associations, lobbyists, regulators, and students. The broader your consultation, the more likely your recommendations will gain acceptance," Koskei said.
