World champion Faith Kipyegon wrapped her season spectacularly by winning the 1500m race at the Athlos Athletic Meet in New York City.
Kipyegon clocked an impressive 4 minutes, 4.79 seconds, securing victory over Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji and fellow Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders, who claimed second and third places, respectively.
Kipyegon unleashed a remarkable burst of speed in the final 200 meters, earning her the win and a hefty $60,000 (KSh7.7 million) prize — the largest single payout of her athletic career.

The Athlos NYC meeting, the first-ever women-only track event, was funded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, husband of retired tennis icon Serena Williams.
It attracted 36 of the world's top short—and middle-distance runners and featured one of the most generous prize purses in athletics history, offering double the rewards of the Diamond League.
Runners finishing in second and third places took home $25,000 (KSh3.2 million) and $10,000 (KSh1.3 million), respectively, while those finishing fourth through sixth earned $8,000 (KSh1 million), $5,000 (KSh644,000), and $2,500 (KSh322,000).
In the 800m race, Olympic bronze medalist Mary Moraa finished second with 1 minute, 58.05 seconds, behind Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma, who clinched victory.
Kipyegon, Ejore, and Moraa were the only Kenyan athletes competing in this inaugural event.
