Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has expressed concerns that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impending impeachment is a strategic distraction that will divert Kenyans' attention from critical national issues.
Wamuchomba suggests that the government uses the impeachment as a diversionary tactic to overshadow more contentious matters, such as the controversial Adani takeover of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
She believes the government deflects attention from its unfulfilled promises and instead focuses on Gachagua with what she deems baseless accusations.

According to Wamuchomba, this move aims to ensure that crucial government decisions, like the transition to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), proceed without public scrutiny.
The MP contends that Gachagua is being scapegoated to distract the public, particularly Kenya's youth, from the real issues that initially drove them to protest.
Wamuchomba also noted that many accusations against Gachagua, including inciteful speech and tribalism, are unjustified. She compared the situation to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, arguing that Kenyatta had also staunchly defended the Mt. Kenya region without facing similar accusations.
She further alleged that some Members of Parliament neglect their responsibilities to their constituents by focusing solely on removing Gachagua. Wamuchomba criticized these MPs for holding meetings in hotels to strategize against the Deputy President rather than addressing pressing national concerns.
The impeachment motion, which requires the support of 233 MPs to pass, is expected to be tabled soon.
Gachagua faces multiple charges, including violations of several articles of the Constitution and accusations of corruptly acquiring assets across several counties.
