Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's impeachment motion will now move to the public participation stage across all 47 counties, as announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula. Speaking to the House after Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse submitted the motion, Wetangula stressed the necessity of public involvement in the process, as required by the Constitution.
He referenced Article 182, which mandates Parliament to facilitate citizen engagement in such matters. "It would be absurd to think a motion of this nature could be resolved without public participation. Article 182 of the Constitution explicitly requires Parliament to ensure public involvement in legislative matters and other parliamentary business," he explained.
Wetangula also referred to previous court rulings regarding the removal of State officers, such as county governors, noting that public participation is a crucial part of removing an elected State official from office.

He further announced that the specific dates for public participation would be communicated starting Wednesday, October 2, through media advertisements. "The House Business Committee has addressed this in its meeting today and approved a national public participation program, coordinated across the 47 counties," he stated. "The Clerk will share the full details with the public via print and electronic media starting tomorrow, October 2."
MP Mutuse tabled a 100-page document detailing evidence supporting the motion, arguing that DP Gachagua’s actions over the past two years have violated the oath of office. The motion has garnered the backing of 291 lawmakers.
