The Ministry of Health has announced that the number of Mpox cases in the country has risen to 9 after a new case was confirmed within the last 24 hours.

Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa stated that the latest patient is a 37-year-old male truck driver from Nakuru County who recently traveled to Rwanda and Uganda.

The Mpox cases are currently spread across the following counties: Nakuru (2), Taita Taveta (1), Busia (1), Nairobi (1), Mombasa (1), Makueni (1), Kajiado (1), and Bungoma (1).

Dr. Barasa confirmed that no deaths have been recorded among the confirmed cases. She highlighted that the Ministry's surveillance efforts are ongoing, with 68 contacts identified.

Of these, 61 have completed the 21-day monitoring period, while seven are still under observation by public health teams and Community Health Promotors (CHPs).

So far, only one contact has tested positive for Mpox during the monitoring period. The Ministry conducts health screenings at all Points of Entry (POEs). In the last 24 hours, 15,541 travelers were screened, bringing the total to 1,128,976 across 26 POEs.

The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) has tested 227 samples, 9 of which have been confirmed positive, 211 negative, and seven still undergoing testing.
