Nairobi County has cancelled licences for nightclubs operating in residential areas following numerous complaints from residents across the County.
The acting county secretary Jairus Musumba has said in a public notice that no nightclub licenses will be issued or renewed for premises operating in residential areas.
The County Secretary confirmed that all the licences that had been initially issued had been cancelled, and the premises can continue operating as restaurants and bars.
Further, he said that licences would only be issued to nightclubs operating within specified streets within select residential areas and the Central Business District (CBD).
In addition, he has instructed restaurants and bars operating in residential areas to operate within the specified time and control the noise emanating from their premises.

"Specifically, playing of music must stop by 10pm," Musumba said.
He has also instructed bars to provide their clients with parking spaces in the County, warning of impounding cars parked in undesignated areas.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has also shared the notice on his Twitter account.
This follows an uproar by the residents of Nairobi raising concerns about noise pollution caused by nightclubs in residential areas recently.
