Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has addressed the nation to explain how he acquired his properties since taking office, offering a detailed defense ahead of Tuesday's impeachment debate. Speaking from his official residence in Karen on Monday, Gachagua systematically outlined the origins of his assets, dismissing allegations made in the impeachment motion as unfounded.
He clarified that many of the companies listed in the motion had been inactive long before he became Deputy President. He further emphasized that the accusations of corruption, money laundering, and abuse of office lacked evidence, urging MP Mwengi Mutuse to withdraw the claims to avoid public embarrassment during the parliamentary session.
Gachagua is facing 11 charges, including gross violations of the Constitution, such as promoting ethnic division and undermining national unity. Despite the serious allegations, the DP affirmed that he has no intention of resigning, stating firmly that he will defend himself in Parliament.
