A Wamunyu court has sentenced a suspect to 12 years in prison for threatening to kill and assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Kakungu village, Mwala sub-county in Machakos County.
According to court records from the Principal Magistrate's Court in Wamunyu, the 33-year-old suspect, Elijah Mwangangi, told the girl, "If you scream, I will kill you the way I killed the other girl," while strangling her.
The attack occurred as the young girl was walking alone when she sensed someone following her.
The court heard that her instincts told her to quicken her pace, but Mwangangi caught up, grabbed her by the neck, and began strangling her.
As she struggled for air and attempted to scream, Mwangangi issued the death threat, causing the girl to lose consciousness.

Further, Senior Resident Magistrate P.E. Nabwana heard that when she regained consciousness, she experienced pain in her neck and pelvic area and ran to her aunt's house.
Nearby residents, alerted by her muffled screams, had pursued the attacker and apprehended him, taking him to Masii Police Station.
Later, during an identification parade, the girl positively identified Mwangangi as her assailant.
Nabwana noted that Mwangangi was a repeat offender, recently released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for heresy.
For his latest crimes, Mwangangi was sentenced to seven years for threatening to kill, under Section 223(1) of the Penal Code and five years for assault under Section 255 of the Penal Code.
The sentences will run concurrently.
