National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s press briefing.

According to Kimani, the media briefing was a futile attempt to gain public sympathy amid his ongoing impeachment process.

Gachagua, who faces accusations including incitement, undermining President William Ruto, bullying, gross misconduct, and graft, held a two-hour press briefing at his official Karen residence to defend himself.

During the conference, Gachagua denied the impeachment claims, labeling the motion led by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse as fabricated. He also discussed his late brother, James Nderitu Gachagua, who passed away in 2017 from cancer, claiming that some of the properties in question were inherited from him.

However, Ichung’wah, in an interview with NTV, criticized the DP's approach, describing it as a “belated public relations stunt.” He argued that Gachagua's media appearance was designed to sway public opinion and influence the Judiciary but failed to address the core impeachment allegations.

“He spent significant time mentioning his late brother to garner sympathy rather than tackling the substantive issues,” Ichung’wah noted. He further compared the press conference to Gachagua's recent plea for forgiveness during a church service, describing both as attempts to seek public empathy.

Despite Gachagua's assertions of innocence and refusal to step down, Ichung’wah emphasized that the grounds for impeachment were credible and that Parliament would proceed with deliberations.

Gachagua remains defiant, stating that 7.2 million Kenyans elected him and has no intention of resigning.

“I will fight to the end and seek justice,” Gachagua declared, dismissing calls for his resignation as baseless and vowing to continue serving as Deputy President.
