Embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appealed to the court for conservatory orders, allowing her to continue serving the people of Meru County.
During a hearing before Justice Bahati Mwamuye, Mwangaza’s legal team, comprising Elius Mutuma and Elisha Ongoya, argued that denying the orders would prejudice her.
The lawyers contended that Mwangaza was not given a fair hearing during her impeachment and that the proceedings forwarded by the Meru County Assembly to the National Assembly were flawed and invalid.

Elius Mutuma emphasized that the governor's case is solid and likely to succeed and that failing to grant the conservatory orders would harm her position.
“We have a case with significant merit, supported by substantial evidence, demonstrating the strength of the petitioner's case,” Mutuma told the court. He further argued that similar charges had been brought against Mwangaza last year, which she was acquitted of, making the current charges unlawful.
The Senate, however, urged the court to dismiss Mwangaza’s application, stating that there were no legal barriers to the impeachment process.
The case will be mentioned on October 15th to schedule a ruling, and the Senate is pushing to lift any orders preventing Mwangaza from vacating office while the petition is heard.
