The Senate has begun considering the charges in the proposed impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a formal notice issued per the Constitution's Article 145 (3)(a) and Senate Standing Order 78(1).
The session has been convened to discuss the impeachment proceedings against the embattled second-in-command.
The Senate will now hear the charges and may appoint a special committee to investigate them, where Gachagua or his representative can respond to the allegations.
If at least two-thirds of the senate vote to uphold the impeachment, Gachagua will be dismissed.
The Senate meets just hours after the National Assembly impeached the Deputy President following a day-long debate.
