A passenger bus plunged into the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Ferry crossing on Sunday morning, sparking serious safety concerns in the area. According to Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) officials, the accident occurred when the bus experienced brake failure while ascending from the ferry on the Likoni side. Unable to control its descent, the bus suddenly veered downhill and plunged into the ocean, causing alarm among onlookers and passengers.
Emergency responders from the Kenya Red Cross reported that nine people were injured in the incident. Seven received treatment at the scene, while two were taken to nearby hospitals for further medical care. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
The accident caused major disruptions at the busy Likoni Ferry channel, halting transport operations and leaving both vehicles and pedestrians stranded as they were unable to board the ferries. The resulting chaos delayed numerous commuters, causing widespread frustration and confusion among travelers.
