The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has appointed Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o as its acting party leader.
This transition allows ODM leader Raila Odinga to fully concentrate on his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
During an ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Mombasa, Odinga acknowledged Nyong’o’s critical role in shaping the party’s foundation since its inception over two decades ago. He expressed confidence that Nyong’o’s leadership will ensure the continuity of the party’s ideologies and strategies.

“In alignment with the Central Committee's recent decision, I officially pass the leadership mantle to Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, a long-standing pillar in our party. This will allow me to focus on the final and more complex phase of my AUC campaign,” Odinga stated.
Odinga thanked the party members and supporters for their dedication and looked forward to the next chapter for the party and the country.
The NEC meeting also confirmed new appointments to key party positions following the exit of some officials who joined the national government. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga now serves as the ODM National Chairperson, replacing John Mbadi, the Treasury Cabinet Secretary.
Other key appointments include Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Vihiga Senator George Khaniri as Deputy Party Leaders. Rosa Buyu, Kisumu West MP, steps in as Secretary for Political Affairs, replacing Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi. Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has been named Deputy Organizing Secretary.
These leadership changes come at a crucial time as ODM prepares for new political challenges and continues to be a leading opposition force in Kenya.
