Mashirima Kapombe's  mum Angela Wanjala Kapombe, was laid to rest on October 10, 2024, in Kilifi County.

The funeral, filled with a deep sense of loss and love, was attended by Mashirima Kapombe, along with numerous dignitaries and journalists who gathered to honor the life of the beloved matriarch.

Angela, who passed away on September 25 at Kenyatta National Hospital, was remembered as a devoted mother, loving wife, and cherished friend to many.

Her husband, Dr. Patrick Kenga Kapombe, mourned the loss of his confidant and lifelong partner, describing Angela as a steadfast pillar in both their home and community.

“Her impact on our lives and the lives she touched is immeasurable,” he told those gathered, as he recounted tales of her unwavering support and compassion. Mashirima, visibly emotional yet composed, delivered a heartfelt tribute to her mother, expressing gratitude for the profound love and values instilled in her throughout her life.


Angela leaves behind three children—Mashirima, Fiona, and Eugene—and beloved grandchildren, Kenga, Zion Peter, and Ziva Angela, who will continue her legacy of love and dedication. Her family stood together in their grief, embodying the strong bonds she nurtured throughout her life.

The funeral was both somber and celebratory, as colleagues from Royal Media Services, including Editorial Director Linus Kaikai, joined to offer their support and pay tribute to Angela’s impactful life.

Their presence highlighted the close-knit nature of the media fraternity, where camaraderie extends beyond the newsroom. Kaikai conveyed heartfelt condolences from RMS management, emphasizing the organisation’s commitment to standing by Mashirima and her family during this difficult time.

The esteemed gathering also included Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, and Kisii Governor Simba Arati, showcasing a united front in mourning the loss of a remarkable woman.

The attendance of retired Chief of Defence Forces, Samson Mwathethe, underscored the deep respect and wide influence Angela held within her community.

Born to Shabaan Mwashangi Mwatamaa and Mary Mashirima Joseph, Angela's life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering faith, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.

She is survived by her siblings Zena and Basuna, along with a treasured lineage of step-siblings whose memories she held dear. Her departure leaves a void not only in her family but within the community she had touched through her kindness and strong spirit.


As her loved ones laid Angela to rest, they reflected on the treasure trove of memories that she left behind—a legacy rooted in love, faith, and devotion that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

The gathering was not just a farewell; it was a celebration of the life she lived, the lives she shaped, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of many.
