Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata caused a stir online following an unexpected meeting with Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Known for focusing primarily on county matters, Kang'ata's foray into national politics on Wednesday, October 16, raised eyebrows.
The governor met with the former Prime Minister at an undisclosed location and shared that the discussions centered around devolution and the country's progress.
Kang'ata shared a photo of him and the former prime minister shaking hands, accompanied by a message: "This morning, I was invited by the Right Honourable Raila Odinga for consultations. We had a productive discussion on national unity and the strides made under devolution."
Despite the neutral tone of his statement, many Kenyans suspected political undertones, speculating that the meeting might hint at a potential alliance. Some suggested that Kang'ata might be eyeing the Deputy President position, a theory that sparked debate.

This development has intensified political maneuvering within the Mt. Kenya region as leaders vie to retain influence over the Deputy President position.
Notable figures being considered include Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
