A 27-year-old man tragically drowned while swimming with friends at Wanyiba Falls in the Rwamuthambi River, located in Kagio in Kirinyaga County.
According to Citizen Digital, witnesses, including Patrick Muchoki and four friends, were swimming together on Wednesday around 3 p.m. when the incident occurred.
"We were all enjoying ourselves, as we’ve swum here before, but suddenly, our friend Peter Muhia, 27, cried out for help. Despite our efforts, we couldn’t save him," Muchoki recounted.
Family members, led by Muhia’s aunt, Joyce Wangui, have been camped by the river, expressing concern over the dangers posed by the volume of water near Wanyiba Falls, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area.
"We are pleading for assistance to recover Peter’s body so we can give him a proper burial," Wangui said.
