Israeli security services have uncovered a significant espionage network allegedly operating on behalf of Iran, according to a joint statement from Shin Bet and Israeli police.

Seven Israeli citizens from northern Israel, including Haifa, were arrested for collecting intelligence on critical military and civilian infrastructure.

This included military bases, an air force, navy facilities, Israel's Iron Dome defense system, and vital energy and port installations.

The security breach is described as one of the most serious in Israel's history.

Investigators revealed that the suspects, including two minors, were working under the guidance of two Iranian intelligence agents. They were tasked with gathering crucial information on various military and strategic assets in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some of the payments were reportedly made using cryptocurrency. The activities of the spy ring are believed to have caused significant damage to Israel's national security.

Shin Bet sources emphasized that the suspects were motivated by financial gain and knowingly endangered Israel's safety. The materials gathered by the group were handed over to their Iranian handlers. Israeli police condemned the suspects' actions, accusing them of betraying the nation for personal profit.

An indictment against the suspects is expected soon. This case follows another incident in September where an Israeli citizen was arrested for involvement in an alleged Iranian-backed plot to assassinate high-profile figures, including the prime minister.

Israel, which has a long history of covert operations in Iran, is also linked to the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. However, it has not claimed responsibility for the killing.
