Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has directed the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to intensify its noise and other environmental pollutants crackdown.
Duale tasked NEMA with spearheading a wide-reaching anti-pollution campaign that would target noise from clubs, nighttime construction, improper waste disposal, and air quality management.
NEMA, supported by its police unit, will enforce strict regulations to curb environmental pollution across various sectors.
One key focus of this operation is clubs located in residential areas, which will only be allowed to continue operating if they comply with noise control measures such as soundproofing and adhere to environmental laws.
Duale emphasized that the era of impunity for club owners and developers ignoring environmental standards must end. He cited the recent closure of Fay's Bistro in Kilimani due to repeated noise pollution complaints as a clear example of the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward offenders.
"This should serve as a strong warning to other establishments—any club in residential areas that continues to violate noise pollution laws will face similar consequences," Duale stated.
The crackdown addresses rising pollution levels that have become a growing concern for local communities.
