Detectives from Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the prime suspect in the recent killings of three women in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
The arrest followed intense investigations by the Criminal Research and Investigations Bureau. After 12 days of evading capture, Dagane was located in Kamukunji, Nairobi.
DCI officials initiated the manhunt after CCTV footage reportedly showed Dagane at a building in Eastleigh. Following his capture, he was briefly questioned at Kamukunji police station before being transferred to DCI headquarters for further interrogation by homicide detectives. He is set to face court proceedings on Monday.
Authorities revealed that Dagane had used multiple phone numbers to evade tracking and was found with fake identification documents. Investigators also uncovered that Dagane was formerly a regional police officer in a neighboring country and had worked as a driver at various schools in Eastleigh.
Allegations have surfaced regarding a previous murder conviction involving a family member, suggesting a violent history.
Dagane has been linked to the abductions and deaths of three women: Amina Abidarashid, Nusayba Abdi, and Warris Daud, whose bodies were discovered in separate locations across Nairobi and Machakos. Police recovered an abandoned vehicle at Wakulima Market, believed to have been used in the abductions.
Authorities are actively probing the motive behind the brutal killings and investigating whether Dagane acted alone or in coordination with others. Another suspect is reportedly in custody, assisting detectives with further inquiries.
The DCI’s intensified search efforts aim to provide answers and justice for the victims' families in this ongoing investigation.
