An autopsy report from the Kenyatta University Funeral Home has revealed that the untimely death of popular content creator and comedian Tabitha Gatwiri was due to suffocation.

According to the report, Gatwiri, who passed away at the age of 29, succumbed to “positional asphyxia with brain edema.”

Positional asphyxia occurs when a person's body position obstructs their breathing, leading to oxygen deprivation, unconsciousness, and potentially death. This condition can result when someone is trapped in an abnormal posture for an extended period, blocking their airway.

The news of Gatwiri’s passing sent shockwaves through social media, where she was adored by over 120,000 TikTok followers. Friends described her as energetic and upbeat just two days before her untimely death, despite battling illness. Screenshots of text messages shared by her peers revealed that she remained engaging and lively, even while unwell.

Concerns over Gatwiri’s well-being escalated when her brother found himself unable to reach her by phone. Acting on his instincts, he visited her home, where he discovered her lifeless body.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka joined many in mourning the loss of the talented actress. “She was a young woman determined to change the world for the better with her ideas,” he said, remembering their thought-provoking discussions.

Gatwiri gained popularity with her humorous skits, especially her relatable portrayals of university life and relationships, including a viral skit about her college boyfriend. As tributes continue to pour in, her community remembers her as a vibrant talent whose life was tragically cut short.
