In an official statement on social media, Lorient left-back Benjamin Mendy (30) announced that an employment tribunal has ruled in his favor regarding unpaid wages from Manchester City.
According to The Athletic, the Premier League champions will now be required to pay Mendy most of the £11 million he claims in unpaid wages and bonuses. His claim stems from his suspension in January 2021, when he was charged with multiple counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The defender claimed that City had judged that ‘he was guilty from the start’ of investigations during the tribunal.
Mendy was cleared of all charges against him in January 2023. During the two years from being charged to the conclusion of the trial, the Manchester club refused to pay the former France international’s wages, despite him being contracted at the Etihad Stadium until June 2023. The World Cup winner later signed for Lorient.
Mendy’s official statement reads, “Having had to wait three years for my wages, I am delighted with the decision and hope the club will do the honourable thing and pay the outstanding amounts.”
