The United Democratic Alliance Founding Members Association (UFMA) has called for the swift removal of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from his roles within the UDA party.

In a statement on Thursday, UFMA endorsed the recent impeachment decision reached by both the National Assembly and Senate, asserting that the procedure followed was lawful.

UFMA Chairperson Joe Khalende expressed that while Gachagua has the right to seek legal redress, the association believes his removal was justified. It is time for him to cut all political connections with UDA.

Khalende urged the UDA National Steering Committee and National Executive Committee to convene to formally expel Gachagua and expedite the appointment of Professor Kithure Kindiki as the new UDA Deputy Party Leader.

Khalende also proposed establishing an additional Deputy Party Leader position to foster inclusivity and enhance the party’s democratic structure.

Additionally, UFMA recommended disciplinary actions against Members of Parliament who opposed Gachagua’s removal. Khalende said these MPs undermined party unity and tarnished UDA’s reputation by supporting the impeached former Deputy President.

He advocated for a “radical purge” within parliamentary committees to remove members who may obstruct President William Ruto’s agenda or disrupt the unity efforts, particularly those championed by Raila Odinga.

The Association also pushed for completing a staff audit and procurement assessments under former Secretary General Cleophas Malalah’s oversight.

Furthermore, UFMA urged the Ruto-led party to finalize grassroots elections and appoint permanent officeholders to solidify UDA’s organizational structure.
