Detectives have apprehended an additional suspect connected to the murder of a woman whose mutilated body was discovered at Lang’ata Cemetery last week.

Jared Mong'are was arrested in Eldoret after investigators linked him to the killing of the victim, Deka Abdinoor Gorone.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, Mong'are managed payments for Gorone's stay at Lavington Valley Heights Apartment and was identified as the driver who transported her to Ngara.

The vehicle used in the crime, a Toyota Vitz with registration KDD 737Q, was later abandoned.

This vehicle has since been towed to DCI headquarters for forensic analysis.

During the investigation, the DCI recovered critical pieces of evidence, including a blood-stained panga believed to be the murder weapon.

Further findings revealed that the apartment where the primary suspect, Hashim Dagane Muhumed, stayed with the victim was an Airbnb operated by a Kilimani-based businesswoman who sublet the property from Alice Mbiya.

This arrangement faced disruption when the apartment owner issued a rent increase notice, prompting the businesswoman to arrange for movers to clear her belongings on November 1, 2024—a day after CCTV footage captured Muhumed leaving the apartment on October 31.

The detectives, guided by Mbiya, searched her Kilimani residence and a Gatundu business location, where they uncovered additional evidence. In Kilimani, they found a handbag believed to belong to Gorone, which was not part of the businesswoman’s belongings.

In Gatundu, officers recovered another blood-stained panga and items similar to those found at Lang’ata Cemetery. Attempts to remove blood traces were noted, but the efforts appeared rushed.

Further investigation showed that Muhumed had Gorone’s phone or SIM card, which he used to contact her family members. This discovery led the detectives back to Lang'ata Cemetery, where they found a phone and a bag containing clothes resembling those Gorone was last seen wearing.

CCTV footage showed her shopping at Quickmart supermarket in Nairobi on October 29, 2024, before she entered the Lavington apartment with Muhumed. Surveillance later captured Muhumed leaving the apartment on October 31, carrying two bags suspected to contain Gorone's remains.

Her dismembered body was eventually discovered at Lang’ata Cemetery.

Complicating the case, the apartment owner is believed to have tried to hide evidence by cleaning and repainting the premises before going into hiding.

The 24-year-old Ethiopian, who has Somali heritage, is suspected of being a serial killer linked to multiple Eastleigh murders. Authorities are actively pursuing him for questioning.
