Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) police officers have apprehended two Tanzanian nationals for illegally trading elephant tusks valued at Kes 3.3 million in Mombasa.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that in a joint operation with officers from Mtwapa Police Station, Paul Kuya, 36, and Paul Telek, 29, were nabbed at their hideout in the Majengo area.
Eleven elephant tusks weighing 32.924 kilograms were concealed in nylon sacks packed in three bags.
Further, DCI reported that the smugglers had traveled from Tanzania to Kenya via the Namanga border to seek potential buyers for the illicit items.
The two are being held in custody at Mtwapa Police Station while awaiting arraignment.
