Moi University officials implicated in corruption allegations involving infrastructure projects worth Ksh. 2,189,659,497 began recording statements at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on Tuesday.

Among those summoned are Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgei, Chief Accountant Egla Samoei, Head of Procurement Wilson Bett, and Head of the Development Unit Moses Kipkulei. The summons are part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misappropriation of public funds at the university.

According to EACC, Samoei, Bett, and Kipkulei were scheduled to record their statements on Tuesday, while Prof. Kosgei was expected to appear before investigators on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the anti-graft agency confirmed that Bett and Kipkulei were being held at the EACC Eldoret offices for questioning.

The university was also instructed to provide key documents to facilitate the probe. In a letter dated November 14, EACC demanded the submission of approved institutional budgets for the last six financial years and minutes from 18 special council meetings by the close of business on Tuesday.

Prof. Kosgei faces additional accusations of obstructing the investigation by failing to provide critical documents despite repeated reminders from EACC. He is also alleged to have attempted to interfere with the ongoing probe.

The investigation highlights concerns about potential large-scale corruption within the institution, with EACC aiming to uncover how funds intended for infrastructure development may have been misused.

This probe forms part of broader efforts to tackle corruption and ensure accountability in public institutions across Kenya.
