*Ugandan Opposition Leader Kizza Besigye Charged with Multiple Offences in Court Martial*

Dr. Kizza Besigye, a prominent Ugandan opposition figure, was arraigned at the General Court Martial in Makindye, Kampala, on Wednesday, facing multiple charges.

According to the charge sheet, Besigye and his co-accused, Haji Obeid Lutale, are alleged to have conducted activities between October 2023 and November 2024 in Geneva (Switzerland), Athens (Greece), and Nairobi, aimed at "soliciting logistical support and identifying military targets in Uganda with intent to compromise the security of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces."

The two were also charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The charge sheet states that on November 16, 2024, at Riverside Apartments in Nairobi, they were found in possession of a pistol model 27KAL No.765, a Pistol HB 1014 1953, and eight rounds of ammunition—all items ordinarily restricted to the Defence Forces.

Reports indicate that Besigye was abducted on Saturday, November 16, in Nairobi, where he was attending a book launch by Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua. Following his abduction, he was reportedly held in isolation until his court appearance.

The Ugandan government has yet to comment on the circumstances surrounding Besigye’s abduction. Meanwhile, Besigye and Lutale remain in remand as court proceedings continue.
