The National Police Service (NPS) has advised the public to avoid participating in any protests on Thursday, November 21, 2024, coinciding with President William Ruto's scheduled State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, NPS spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango emphasized that the organizers of the alleged demonstrations had not notified authorities in advance, as required by the Public Order Act.

The statement referenced reports circulating on social media about potential protests fueled by growing political tensions. While acknowledging Kenyans' constitutional rights to assemble, picket, or present petitions peacefully and unarmed, the NPS clarified that these rights come with specific legal obligations.

According to the statement, the Public Order Act mandates organizers submit a written notice to the local Regulating Officer—typically the Officer Commanding Station (OCS)—at least three days but no more than 14 days before the planned event.

NPS noted that no formal notification regarding Thursday’s demonstrations has been submitted as of now. The agency encouraged citizens to proceed with their usual activities without concern for disruptions.
