A 42-year-old man from Wanugu village, Gatundu South, is recovering at Gatundu Level Five Hospital after a tragic self-inflicted injury involving his testicles.
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 23, 2024, as the man made a desperate attempt to overcome his long-standing struggle with alcohol addiction.
From his hospital bed, the man shared that years of harmful alcohol consumption had pushed him to the brink of despair. Despite numerous failed attempts to quit drinking, he described being overcome by hopelessness and anger, leading him to harm himself in what he admitted was an attempted suicide.

The man revealed that his addiction had taken a severe toll on his life, contributing to the breakdown of his marriage and separation from his wife and three children. He attributed his personal and financial hardships to years of alcohol abuse.
Appealing to religious leaders and the community, he called for prayers and support for himself and others battling addiction.
“When I am sober, I feel at peace,” he stated, urging those struggling with alcohol dependency to seek help before it’s too late. He also condemned alcohol for its destructive impact, emphasizing its lack of economic value.
A surgical report confirmed that the man underwent a complex procedure known as scrotal exploration, which involves examining and treating testicular injuries through an incision in the scrotum. Medical staff at Gatundu Level Five Hospital have not provided an official update on his condition.
