A police officer, reportedly an OCS at a station in Trans Nzoia County, is alleged to have shot Charles Mutai in the abdomen around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The shooting occurred at a bar in Kapcherany Market while the officer was reportedly on short leave at home.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear, according to police. Mutai was initially taken to Kapkatet Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Litein Mission Hospital, where he is now recovering in stable condition.

Detectives from Sotik Subcounty Headquarters visited the scene and recovered a spent 9mm cartridge, which will undergo ballistic analysis as part of the investigation. Authorities have urged the officer, who fled the scene, to surrender himself.

Police plan to interrogate both the suspect and the injured individual to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting. The officer could face charges of firearm misuse and attempted murder.

This incident has sparked concerns about the behavior of some law enforcement officers while off duty.
