A bodaboda rider has died after being swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross a submerged bridge on the Kipsitet River in Soin Ward, Sigowet Soin Constituency.

The motorcycle, carrying a rider and two passengers, was caught in the strong currents as it tried to navigate the unsafe crossing. Witnesses reported that the raging waters overwhelmed the rider, making it impossible to control the motorbike.

Fortunately, after a harrowing struggle, the rider managed to swim safely, while a male passenger was rescued several kilometers downstream.

However, the search continues for a female passenger who remains missing. Authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to locate her. The motorcycle was eventually recovered downstream.

Local residents have expressed anger and frustration over the bridge's poor condition. They criticized local leaders and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) for neglecting vital infrastructure, noting that the narrow and poorly maintained bridge poses a significant danger to road users.

Some residents pointed out that parts of the bridge have sunken, exacerbating the risk during heavy rains.

Authorities have urged caution when crossing flooded areas and reiterated their commitment to enhancing road safety in the region.
