Two nurses accused of splashing acid on three police officers during a raid on a medical center in Ngara will remain in custody for four days as authorities await further directions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on whether to press charges.

The court granted the detention request, agreeing with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that additional time was necessary to complete investigations.

The suspects, Jonah Kipsiror Murori and Mwaura Karumbi, are also under investigation for allegedly operating a pharmacy without proper registration by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

The case involves police officers on patrol who received a tip-off about an alleged abortion being conducted at Ngara Medical Centre, located near the Ngara Equity roundabout. Acting on this information, the officers proceeded to the facility and knocked on the door.

It is alleged that Jonah Kipsiror Murori opened the door and, without warning, splashed acid on the officers. The attack caused severe burns to their bodies and clothes.

The injured officers were immediately rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where they were admitted to the High Dependency Unit for treatment.

Reinforcement police officers later rushed to the scene where a container with liquid substance and material resembling human organs.

The two suspects were also arrested with three patients among them a lady who allegedly was in the process of procuring abortion and was taken to Mbagathi hospital in serious condition.

The suspects will now be arraigned in Court on Monday 2nd December 2024 for further Directions.
