The Siaya County Commissioner, Norbert Komora, has reiterated that the ban on night vigils, commonly known as Disco Matangas, and other unnecessary festivities will remain in force throughout the 2024 holiday season.
Commissioner Komora emphasized that these gatherings often serve as breeding grounds for criminal activities and immoral behavior, mainly targeting school-going children.
“Disco Matangas and similar events are negatively impacting our community. Chiefs must remain vigilant this December, and anyone found flouting this directive will face legal action,” he warned.
To ensure compliance, the commissioner has directed security teams across the county to monitor such activities and take swift action against violators.
Komora also urged parents and guardians to guide their children during the festive period actively, stressing that responsibility for their welfare should not be left solely to law enforcement officers and local administrators.
He expressed concern over the rising incidents of sexual and gender-based violence in the region, including femicide. He called on Siaya residents to foster a culture of community accountability and mutual care.
