Authorities in Migori County have launched investigations into the tragic death of a 5-year-old girl who drowned in an open pit in Suna East last week.
The pit, reportedly left unfilled by road contractors after murram extraction, has raised safety concerns in the region.
According to Suna-Sagegi location Chief Sila Ogutu, the young girl had been swimming in the pit with four other children when the incident occurred. Residents, alerted by the children’s screams, managed to rescue the other four, but tragically, the young girl could not be saved.
