Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced a strategic plan to revamp Uhuru and Central Parks by leasing and renting designated spaces to private investors.
This initiative, approved by the governor's cabinet, aims to elevate these iconic parks to world-class standards while enhancing user experience.
According to Governor Sakaja, the growing urban population and increasing recreational demands have necessitated innovative approaches to sustain and upgrade public spaces.
Through partnerships with private investors, the county government seeks to improve facilities, introduce modern amenities, and create sustainable income streams for park maintenance.

“This initiative will enable us to establish recreational facilities, eateries, and event spaces, providing residents and visitors with better amenities while also generating revenue for the county,” Sakaja explained.
He emphasized that the plan aligns with the Kenya Kwanza administration's Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which encourages private sector involvement in developing the country’s infrastructure.
By collaborating with private entities, the county aims to boost service delivery, promote economic growth, and create employment opportunities.
“This approach ensures private investors can earn a livelihood while helping the county generate revenue. At the same time, Nairobians will enjoy improved facilities and services,” the governor added.
