The National Assembly has approved Abdi Ahmed Mohamud’s nomination as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
If confirmed by President William Ruto, Mohamud will succeed Twalib Mbarak, whose term concludes in January.
Currently serving as EACC's Deputy CEO, Mohamud brings a wealth of experience to the role. With over 19 years in the anti-corruption agency, he has been instrumental in investigating high-profile corruption cases across Kenya.

During his vetting by the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Mohamud emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the EACC and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
He attributed the failure of some corruption cases to gaps in legal preparation and criticized the ODPP for appointing lawyers who may lack in-depth knowledge of the cases they handle.
Mohamud recommended a strategic approach where the ODPP assigns lawyers to corruption cases from the onset to ensure better understanding and case management.
“The lawyers prosecuting these cases should be deeply familiar with the files. Lack of thorough interaction often leads to case failures,” he told the committee.
