The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has urged party leaders to exercise caution in their public remarks to protect the party's reputation.
This follows controversial statements by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, who recently questioned the necessity of public participation in development projects, claiming it hinders government operations.
During a Taita Taveta event alongside President William Ruto, Junet remarked, “Serikali inachaguliwa kuleta maendeleo...lakini inawekewa vikwazo.” He later reiterated that some government initiatives, like Affordable Housing, align with ODM’s manifesto and should not be opposed.
Junet defended his comments, stating, "Mdomo ni yangu, siasa ni yangu," emphasizing his right to personal opinions. However, Sifuna distanced the party from these remarks, affirming ODM's commitment to public participation and democratic principles.

“As a leader, Junet must remember his position amplifies his words as representative of ODM. His personal views should align with the party's stance,” Sifuna said. He reaffirmed his role in safeguarding ODM's values and countering misinformation.
Sifuna also addressed criticism aimed at Hassan Joho, the former ODM Deputy Party Leader and current Cabinet Secretary for Mining, over remarks targeting government critics on social media. Joho labeled such critics as unpatriotic, prompting backlash.
While Migori Senator Eddy Oketch defended Joho, stating his allegiance now lies with the Kenya Kwanza government, Sifuna denounced Joho’s tone, emphasizing that even ODM leader Raila Odinga has handled criticism without retaliation.
