Residents of Chepngaina village, located on the outskirts of Bomet, are grieving the loss of a 33-year-old man who tragically died by electrocution while trimming a tree near an active power line.
Eyewitnesses reported that the man cried out for help from the top of a bluegum tree moments before falling to the ground, still holding the panga he had been using to cut the branches.
Kenya Power officers from the Bomet station promptly arrived at the scene and shut off the electricity supply to prevent further incidents.
The victim's body was later transported to the Longisa Hospital mortuary for further procedures.
Following this incident, local residents, led by community leader John Kirui, urged Kenya Power to initiate public forums to raise awareness about safety measures when working near power lines. They emphasized the need for education to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
