Siaya County has recorded the highest proportion of women accessing family planning information through ICT services, according to a new report by the Communications Authority. The report ranked Siaya first at 40.7 percent, followed closely by Kericho at 40 percent and Narok at 39.2 percent. Nyandarua came in fourth at 39 percent, while Trans-Nzoia secured the fifth position with 38.3 percent.
On the other end of the spectrum, Mandera County recorded the lowest access to family planning information among women, with only 2.3 percent. It was followed by Wajir at 18.6 percent, Turkana at 35.4 percent, and Lamu at 46.5 percent.
In contrast, Machakos County led the way for men, with an impressive 96.5 percent accessing family planning information via ICT services. Kericho came second at 93 percent, while Kirinyaga ranked third at 92.1 percent. Conversely, Mandera reported the lowest proportion of men accessing such information at 15.5 percent, followed by Wajir at 18.6 percent and Turkana at 35.4 percent.

Overall, the report revealed that access to family planning information is generally higher among men compared to women. However, in 13 counties, women surpassed men in accessing this information via mobile phones. These counties include Kericho, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Turkana, Mombasa, and Garissa, alongside Marsabit, Isiolo, Makueni, Nyeri, Siaya, Kisumu, and Kisii.
The report further noted that individuals aged 25-34 years had the highest access to family planning information through television, mobile messaging, social media platforms, and the internet. Additionally, radio emerged as a key medium for both urban and rural populations, with rural residents reporting higher access to family planning information via radio compared to their urban counterparts.
