Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has suggested a potential political alliance with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. He acknowledged Kalonzo’s support for the Mt. Kenya region during challenging times, stating that the region would reciprocate at an appropriate moment.
Gachagua expressed that the mountain owes Kalonzo a political debt for his role in supporting the late President Mwai Kibaki. He hinted that the 2027 election might be the right time to repay this debt. The former deputy president, who has frequently spoken about providing political direction for the Mt. Kenya region and his supporters next year, may have revealed his plans for an alliance during his visit to Mbooni in Makueni County, Kalonzo’s political stronghold.
“Wakati tulikuwa tunafukuzwa na wale walitusaidia, nyinyi mlikuja mkatushikilia, na sisi watu wa Mlima Kenya sisi ni watu tuko na shukrani,” Gachagua remarked. He emphasized Kalonzo’s longstanding loyalty to Mt. Kenya, noting that his contributions have accrued interest since his time as Kibaki’s vice president.
“Huyu Kalonzo alisimama na Mwai Kibaki na hiyo deni hatukulipa. Sasa kura lazima tutaweka debe moja,” he added.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, asking: “Ni vibaya mukiingia katika GEMA association? Ni vibaya tukisukuma mmoja wenu aingie State House aonje chai ya State House?”
During the same event, Gachagua criticized the government’s planned livestock vaccination initiative, calling it a top-down approach that disregards the input of local communities. “Kenyans have a right. Si ng’ombe ni yao? Sasa wewe unaenda hapo na unataka kulazimisha badala usikilize vile wanataka,” he stated.
He also condemned President William Ruto for what he described as the persecution of politicians in Nyandarua County following an incident where a crowd rejected the president’s Jamhuri Day speech. “Sasa utashika kila mtu? Badala uanze kuandika vitu za ukweli. Unataka kushika kila mtu?” Gachagua posed.
Gachagua’s remarks in Makueni strongly suggest his intention to rally the Mt. Kenya region’s support behind Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 elections.
