The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched an investigation into political activist Morara Kebaso over claims of tax evasion of Ksh.186 million in income generated by his businesses since 2022.
The businesses under scrutiny include Backtent Security Limited, Morara Properties Limited (also operating as Blacksmith Morara Limited), Luku Fashion, Morara Home Furniture, and Igrow Digital Enterprise.
According to reports, KRA issued a formal notice to Morara, citing concerns that his businesses have either failed to file tax returns or reported no income despite owning multiple assets and running active ventures.
The tax authority revealed that significant sums of money had been transferred to Morara’s personal bank account and accounts belonging to Morara Properties Limited and Morara Home Furniture since 2022. Most of these transfers were facilitated through M-Pesa transactions.
KRA noted that funds received in Morara's account were primarily earmarked for furniture purchases and interior fittings.
Additionally, Morara Properties Limited and Morara Home Furniture reportedly processed payments via M-Pesa Paybill services.
